Friends & family gathered at Bill Wests’
Plan B Music Club to support Gregory Blaine & Dolie Chandler emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually & financially. Gregory arrived in a wheel chair. He is fighting cancer in his bones. There was a long raffle table with great items to raise $ for Gregory. A pot luck of wonderful food resided on another table along with oysters out back. He & his band Rootsie came to perform their last performance together. Once Gregory got on stage & started singing & playing his guitar, it was as if he wasn’t battling cancer. He sang strong & with the fierce energy & passion he gives all his music. That’s the power of music. He told us stories & how he feels about things going on in the world today, just like he always has. There was so much love in the room, it was palpable. On the first song, people got up to dance. We witnessed, we watched, we listened, we shed tears, so much emotion & love.
The last song was Marvin Gaye’s 1971 song,
“What’s Going On”. This 1971 release is just as true today as it was back in 1971. I’m hopeful the tide is changing to more universal respect, equality & kindness towards one another no matter your color or background. Near the end of the song, Gregory & Dolie stepped onto the dance floor for their grand finale. Oh my goodness….Bittersweet tears.
We love you Gregory. We love you Dolie. We are holding the space of protection & love for both of you. Rootsie -
